Some of the most powerful stories are the ones few people ever hear.
Far from busy cities and modern hospitals, many elderly men and women affected by leprosy live quietly in remote villages across India. Their struggles often remain unseen. Their stories are rarely told.
Subramani’s story is one of them.
At 58 years old, Subramani lives with his wife in a small village in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. Years ago, leprosy damaged the nerves in his hands and feet, leaving him vulnerable to injuries and painful ulcers. What began as small wounds gradually became a daily challenge.
As his condition worsened, working became increasingly difficult. The labor jobs he once relied upon were no longer possible. Medical treatment was expensive and difficult to access. Like many others affected by leprosy, Subramani found himself facing physical pain, uncertainty, and isolation.
Then Embrace a Village began visiting his village.

Through monthly outreach visits, Subramani now receives rice support, ulcer care, self-care supplies, and ongoing encouragement. His wounds are carefully cleaned and dressed. He receives the tools and training needed to care for his ulcers at home. Most importantly, he receives something many leprosy patients long for—human connection.
The support he receives has helped replace fear with hope.
His wife no longer faces these challenges alone. The burden of hunger has eased. The wounds that once seemed overwhelming are now being treated with consistency and care.
Across Tamil Nadu, many others continue to live in circumstances similar to Subramani’s. Through rice distribution, ulcer care programs, self-care training, and compassionate outreach, Embrace a Village is helping restore dignity to those who have often been forgotten.
This work is made possible through the prayers and generosity of caring supporters.
If Subramani’s story has encouraged you, please consider sharing it with others. Every story shared helps raise awareness about a need that remains largely unseen. Together, we can help ensure more people learn about the lives being transformed through compassion, dignity, and hope.
