Back to School. Back to Hope.

Stories

Every child deserves the opportunity to dream.

As another school year begins, children across America are packing backpacks, meeting new teachers, and looking ahead with excitement.

Education represents hope.

It represents opportunity.

It reminds us that every child has the potential to become something extraordinary.

That same hope is quietly growing every afternoon inside Embrace a Village’s Little Lights After-School Program in Tamil Nadu, India.

One of those children is Nitish.

Growing up in a family affected by leprosy and extreme poverty, Nitish knows what uncertainty feels like. His parents leave home each morning searching for work, never knowing if they will return with enough money to feed the family. Some days they do. Some days they don’t.

There were mornings when Nitish went to school hungry. Homework became discouraging because there was no one at home able to help after long days of physically demanding labor. Slowly, he began believing he wasn’t capable of succeeding.

Then Embrace a Village entered his story.

Through the Little Lights After-School Program, Nitish found caring mentors who patiently encouraged him, celebrated every small victory, and reminded him that learning happens one step at a time. Instead of criticism, he found encouragement. Instead of fear, he found confidence.

Every afternoon also brings something many children take for granted—a nutritious meal. For Nitish, that meal provides more than nourishment. It gives him the energy to concentrate, eases the burden on his parents, and reminds him that he is loved and cared for.

Today, Nitish is reading with confidence and participating in class with a smile that tells a completely different story.

We’ve witnessed this transformation before.

Sathya once sat where Nitish sits today. Through faithful encouragement and educational support, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and now serves others with compassion.

This September, Jameson—another Little Lights student—will become the first in his family to attend college as he begins nursing school with continued support from Embrace a Village.

Those stories remind us that today’s student may become tomorrow’s teacher, nurse, leader, or mentor.

As children head back to school this year, another generation of Little Lights students is beginning its own journey.

Their stories are still being written.

Your prayers, generosity, and encouragement are helping write every chapter.

Thank you for believing that every child deserves the opportunity to discover the future God has prepared for them.

If Nitish’s story encouraged you, we invite you to share it. Together we can raise awareness and inspire others to invest in children whose greatest need is someone who believes in them.
