Gowri, a 70-year-old widow from a small village near Chennai, has lived through decades of struggle. Diagnosed with leprosy at just 25, she endured ten years of treatment—but still lost fingers on both her hands and feet. Life has never been easy. After her husband, a daily laborer, passed away, Gowri was left alone, trying to survive on just 1000 rupees a month (about $12 USD).
She feared the worst. But hope found her.
Through a friend who also suffers from leprosy, Gowri heard about Embrace a Village. With great courage, she traveled over 30 kilometers, clinging to the hope that someone—anyone—might help.
And that day changed her life.
When she met the EAV team, she found more than food. She found healing. Dignity. Family.
Today, Gowri receives monthly rice, ulcer treatment, and self-care supplies that help her manage her condition with comfort and confidence. And just recently, she received a brand-new pair of custom shoes designed specifically for her wounded feet. Her joy was overwhelming.
“I would have been dead and gone if not for this team,” Gowri said softly, eyes glistening with gratitude. “Now, I can walk. I can smile. I have hope again.”
