In the quiet village of Deviyakurichi, a 72-year-old man named Shanmugam lives with strength that leprosy could never steal.
At just 27, he was diagnosed with the disease that would change the course of his life. Over the years, his body bore its scars—his feet ulcerated, his fingers misshapen, and the daily tasks we often take for granted became painful hurdles. His wife, Jaya, also battles the effects of leprosy, and together they have weathered years of suffering, isolation, and uncertainty.
But through it all, Shanmugam never gave up hope.
He found joy in the little things—a sunrise, the laughter of children, a shared smile. And more than anything, he found comfort and care through the compassionate outreach of Embrace a Village.

For years now, our team has arrived at his home each month—not just with food, medical care, and bandages—but with dignity, friendship, and love. They never recoiled from his wounds. They treated him not as a patient, but as a person—a father, a husband, a human being deeply worthy of care.
One evening, as a staff member gently dressed his wounds, Shanmugam looked up and said, “You have been my family when the world forgot me.”
That moment speaks to the very heart of our mission. And it’s your prayers, your giving, and your faithfulness that make this love possible.
When we gave Shanmugam a pair of specially designed shoes—lightweight and protective—he could walk without pain for the first time in years. Something as simple as a pair of shoes became a symbol of hope, of healing, and of the brighter path that still lies ahead.
Because of you, Shanmugam is not forgotten. He is seen. He is cared for. He is deeply loved.
Thank you for all that you do—whether you give, pray, or share this mission with others. Your support transforms not just lives, but hearts.
You are part of something sacred. Something eternal.
From all of us at Embrace a Village, we pray blessings over you and your family. May the kindness you pour out be returned to you many times over.
