2012 marked our ninth year in service to the leprosy victims in Tamil Nadu, India. Each year our love and fellowship with them and their families deepen. We have had the privilege of experiencing so much joy and hope being brought to these forgotten people through the services of Embrace A Village. However, as with any deep relationships sometimes heartaches are also experienced. Leprosy carries with it harsh reality in day-to-day life. One of the saddest realities is returning to a colony after being away for a few months only to find out that one of your friends had passed on. Our saving grace is knowing that every person in the colonies has had the opportunity, just like you and me, to come to know Jesus Christ personally, and therefore their hope of eternal life is secure.
Without a doubt, our greatest privilege and purpose is to bring consistent exposure and teaching of God’s Word throughout the leprosy villages. Currently we serve in 35 colonies throughout Tamil Nadu. (Tamil Nadu is the southern most state in India and would be similar to the size of Illinois or Missouri for perspective). Families that would otherwise not have had the opportunity to hear His truth, because of their disease, are now being fed scripture weekly and developing their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Several times we have witnessed people stand up and express “they were thankful they had contracted leprosy because now they were in a place to experience the true love of Jesus Christ for themselves”.
Embrace A Village also meets the daily physical needs for the patients and their families with:
– Weekly medical treatment & wound care
– Rice provision
– After school tutoring (2 hrs per day, 3 -5 times weekly) as well as a nutritious meal.
– Custom footwear to protect wounds and prevent further infection.
– Hospice care for those no longer able to care for themselves
We continue to be guided in this area of the ministry by Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in”.
We enter 2013 with much anticipation on how God will continue to work through our lives. In April, there will be a full feature movie released on DVD by Pure Flix Entertainment. In, “This Is Our Time”, Pure Flix chose to incorporate Embrace a Village with a significant part of the storyline. It is a compelling movie with Embrace A Village being exposed in a powerful way! Their contribution is truly a gift for our ministry. Our website will provide up to date information about our ministry as well as information regarding the upcoming movie release in April.
In closing, I thank you for your continued prayers and support, which enables us to reach out and serve those who are unable to care for themselves. Please know that 100% of your gifts go directly to support the leprosy victims and their families.
Continued Blessings to You and Your Family,
Joe & Pat Clendenny
